Reporting from the fashion metropolis of Singapore

For those of you that do not know, I am now living in Singapore and so I am reporting to you all from over here amongst this modern metropolis of style and fashion.

Last week, my friend Sabrina (the exotic combination of Suisse/Philippino) invited me to an exclusive fashion show here in Singapore so of course, I didn’t hesitate to accept as I am here to experience new and exciting inspirations from the fashion scene of South East Asia.

The name of the show was
Guild by Grey Goose – it was their first event in Singapore and they chose the fabulous location The White Rabbit, which is an old church converted into a restaurant.

In total there were three designers presenting their collections:

NOCTURNAL by Reshan Melwani
WYKIDD and Jade Swee
TIME TAKEN TO MAKE A DRESS by Letitia Phay

While each of these designers brought something different to the night, a common vein brought them together as each brand designed an exclusive Grey Goose inspired dress. NOCTURAL’s design was a black leather top, with a flowy skirt (very rock chic). WYKIDD’s design was a beautiful white gown. While, TIME TAKEN TO MAKE A DRESS’s design was a  sheer long black dress (very vampy in style). Each of the designers donated the dresses for an auction with proceeds going to The UN Women Committee of Singapore.

I was most taken by NOCTUNAL, I felt the designs in her collection were the most modern, girlie and cohesive. While NOCTURNAL was flowy and  feminine with a dash of bling, WYKIDD (men’s wear brand) took on the challenge of a very solid presentation of women’s fashion and TIME TAKEN TO MAKE A DRESS brought more of a bold look, incorporating a lot of black, open backs and a 'dare to wear' style.

As always, no matter where you are, “Come Bien, Compra Bien, Viste Bien, Siéntete Bien".

Keep following our blog for all the latest updates on fashion and event from around the world... I am off to find more fashion inspiration from this amazing corner of the world!

Glamavida attends London Fashion Weekend for inspiration!

This summer, whilst in London I made a point of visiting as many top fashion events as I could, to get inspiration and ideas to bring back to Panama to take our Glamavida events to another level.

Amongst the events I visited, one of the best was London Fashion Weekend in Somerset House.

This event run by the British Fashion Council is a unique event showcasing top fashion brands, independent designers and boutiques and being in London it is of course considered to be at the forefront of fashion and THE place to shop for something unique.

Highlights included:

Vintage
Vodafone London Fashion Weekend and Wayne Hemingway joined forces to create a truly exceptional area. With live music, vintage concierge, vintage photo booths, dressing up and carefully selected vintage dealers. If you have always wanted to take the plunge into vintage but never had the chance then this was your perfect opportunity.

The Shoe Studio

With shoe designers such as Atalanta Weller, David Wyatt, Finsk, French Sole, Michael Lewis and Rosemary Twang, you were in for a real treat this season. I wanted to buy so many shoes but couldn’t fit them in my suitcase back to Panama!

Boutique Street
This year was the launch of ‘Boutique Street’ – a fab new hub of London’s hottest boutiques including KJ’s Laundry, Pipa, Infusion, Winter Kate & House of Harlow boutique plus many more. Designers sold in this area included American Retro, Alice & Olivia, Hudson, Folk, Humanoid, Rebecca Taylor & Tucker.

Something for the boys
This year boyfriends and husbands were encouraged to come, not only to buy their women lots of treats and enjoy a lunch on the terrace, but there was also some dedicated men’s designers at the event including DKNY Jeans, Elizabeth Lau, Bolongaro Trevor and Designer Studio Mens… so he can keep himself busy while you shop and get pampered :)

The Weekend Boutique
In association with The Fashion Retail Academy, this year they launched The Weekend Boutique.  Here you could shop for designer bargains from amazing British designers such as Holly Fulton, Body AMR, Liz Black and Louise Dalton.

The Weekend Retreat
After I had shopped till I dropped, visited the catwalk and sipped champagne in the VIP Chambord area, I made my way over to The Retreat and booked myself in for a mani/pedi, a brow shape and a relaxing massage to totally top off my day of fashion perfection!

Watch out for some great ideas straight from London to be incorporated into our next Glamavida on December 14th. More information coming soon or email me leanne@glamavida.com
